Thursday was one of those days where the racing gods played a bit of a game with us. We had a wide variety of tracks in action from the sand at Southwell to the turf at Tramore and Thurles, and while the results sheet was mixed, there were some proper performances worth noting for your tracker. Sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth, and today was a reminder that even the most consistent profiles can be pushed by the pace of a race. Let us dive into the action across the country.
Southwell (AW)
Southwell provided the most action for us today. The track continues to be a go-to for finding value in these handicap nurseries. Cool King looked solid winning at 11/2, handled perfectly by Silvestre De Sousa who just knows how to get the job done on this surface. Rogue Citation also put in a shift at 4/1, showing the sort of tactical versatility that keeps punters on their toes. It was also good to see Revoked get the job done at 13/8. That was a tidy bit of work for those following the shorter prices in those nursery events.

Thurles was where we saw some of the most exciting finishes. The Austrian was a highlight, getting the win at 5/4. It is rare to see such a confident performance in a small field, but he looked the part throughout. Silver Kiss at 10/11 also lived up to the hype, maintaining her form profile perfectly for the yard.

Tramore offered up some tactical hurdles racing. Way Down South took the honours at 10/3, navigating the slower pace beautifully. It was a good day for the stable generally, even if some of the other runners were slightly disappointing.

It is always important to look at the ones who didn't quite make the grade. Sometimes the market gets it wrong, and other times a horse just has an off day. Take a look at these two who didn't fire today.

Looking ahead, pay close attention to Silver Kiss. That win in the maiden was a long time coming and she looks like a horse that could progress well into handicap company now that the monkey is off her back. Similarly, keep an eye on Way Down South. That win at Tramore showed real maturity, and he could be a force to reckon with if the ground remains in his favor.
